I’ve been working on VMware Horizon recently and my customer is asking me how he can add additional languages/keyboard to any users logging in to VDI desktop. Sound very simple and straightforward. But I couldn’t seems to find a good article to resolve this.
I’ve tried to add the languages via VMWare DEM, make registries tweaks but all doesn’t seems to work. So I decided to try out on the Win 10 golden image itself and it really seems like adding of languages is per-profile basis. Meaning whatever languages I add in my profile, it will not apply to other profiles on the same machine. Then I finally managed to figure out how to replicate the changes to all the profiles logging onto the Win 10 machine. (Actually its not hard but like I said, I cannot find a good article to show it can done).
Login to the Win 10 machine using an account with administrative privileges. Then click on the language button and select “Language preferences”.
Add the languages that you want all user profiles to have.
In my case, I added Chinese language/keyboard. Select Chinese and click Next.
Ensure that all the features are added and click Next to complete the adding process.
Once you are done, you should see something like this. I’ve also added Japanese language/keyboard.
Now, navigate to Control Panel > Region
Navigate to Administrative tab and click on “Copy Settings”.
Tick both the options and click Ok to complete. This will replicate the language/keyboard preferences to all new user profiles.
I’ve tested logging in to another account on the same machine and it is working as expected.
Then, I tested on the VDI desktop again and it is working properly too.
Happy Trying!
